ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of Evansville men's golf team opened the Lonnie Barton Invitational in St. Augustine, Fla. with a team score of 306, putting the Purple Aces in eighth after the first round the LPGA Country Club.
Evansville began the tournament with a first-round 306, placing the Aces eighth among a crowded pack as UE sits just six strokes back of third-place Bryant. The 14-team field, featuring 11 NCAA Division I teams, was led by Fort Wayne, who finished four under as a team with a first-round 284.
On the opening day, the Aces were paced by Tyler Gray, who fired a first-round 74 to place him in a tie for 14th. Much like a week ago, following Gray was Matthew Ladd who carded a four-over 76, putting him in a tie for 25th.

Day One Results
Just a stroke back of Ladd was Noah Reese, who opened the invitational with a five-over 77 and sits in a tie for 31st. The final two golfers competing as part of the Aces' team are Spencer Wagner and Cameron Weyer. Wagner currently sits in a tie for 48th after a first-round 79, while Weyer is tied for 77th following an 84 in the opening round.
Competing individually are a trio of Aces led by Jesse Brumley. The freshman leads the pack of Evansville individuals with an 80 in the opening round, placing him in a tie for 55th. Gabe Rohleder followed Brumley with a first-round 82, good enough to put Rohleder in a tie for 64th, while Robert Waggoner sits in a tie for 71st after an 83 in the first round.
The second and final round with take place on Tuesday at the LPGA Country Club.
