Game Notes
The Purple Aces enter MVC play at 6-16, coming off a cold, heartbreaker of a weekend in Omaha as they were swept by former conference rival Creighton University, dropping a pair of one-run decisions, while playing in unspring-like conditions at TD Ameritrade Park, home of the College World Series. The Purple Aces came up short Wednesday night as they fell on the road in a slugfest with Murray State, 11-9 .
Missouri State, which currently holds the best overall record in the MVC at 19-7, rolls into the weekend having won their first Missouri Valley Conference series of the spring, taking two of three on the road at Indiana State. The Bears were led by freshman reliever Connor Sechler, who turned a rare trick Friday night, earning a save in game one of a double header against the Sycamores, then getting the win in game two of the twin bill, pitching in relief. That feat earned the rookie MVC Pitcher of the Week honors. Â
Evansville will open the weekend with junior southpaw Alex Weigand on the hill Friday afternoon. Missouri State will counter with right hander Dylan Coleman, Saturday will see freshman righty Jace Burke get the start for the Aces, with the Bears countering with Ty Buckner. UE has yet to announce their starter on Sunday, MSU has already tabbed right hander Logan Wiley with the starting duties.
