Women’s Soccer set for return to Arad McCutchan Stadium

10/18/2016 1:57:00 PM

EVANSVILLE – After taking a break from competitive play last week, the University of Evansville women's soccer team will play three of the most consequential regular season matches of the season, beginning on Wednesday as Indiana State will pay a visit to Arad McCutchan Stadium.

UE vs. Indiana State (Wednesday, 6 p.m.):  Live Stats  |  The Valley on ESPN3  |  ISU Website

The Aces, who are 3-10-1 overall, have impressed so far in three regular season Missouri Valley Conference matches, posting a 2-1-0 mark. The Sycamores represent the first obstacle for UE, and the team will continue play later this week versus league-leading Illinois State before wrapping up the season later this month at Missouri State. If the Aces were to get past all three, as they did a season ago, they would lay claim to the MVC regular season crown.

The Aces will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 setback earlier this month at Loyola as the host Ramblers picked up a late goal to hand UE its first conference loss of the season. If UE is going to get back on track, the team will be looking to get leading scorer Bronwyn Boswell back in the scoring column. The senior out of Frisco, Texas, hasn't found the net in the last seven matches after bagging five goals in the first nine matches.

Montana Portenier, who has also enjoyed notable season after missing all of last year due to injury, is the only other player with multiple goals for UE, finding the net twice. Molly Lear, JBess Ruby, Mikayla Harvey and Colleen Dierkes have each scored as well.

Defensively, the Aces have been buoyed by freshman defenders Samantha Brown and Olivia Panella, who have become regular starters on the outside, and all-conference first-teamer Emily Richardson has been solid in the heart of the back line. Whitney Biggs has played every minute in goal for UE, logging three shutouts in the process.

Meanwhile, Indiana State will be looking to halt its three-match winless skid, which includes an overtime loss at Tennessee as well as a scoreless draw with Northern Iowa. The Sycamores are 6-9-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.

Kickoff on Wednesday is slated for 6 p.m.

NOTES: UE ended the 2015 league campaign with a pair of 1-0 decisions over Indiana State and Missouri State as well as a 2-1 overtime win over Illinois State … Colleen Dierkes scored the match-winner at Indiana State last season … UE also won in 2-0 fashion on the Sycamores' last trip to Evansville in 2014 … Bronwyn Boswell scored both goals in that encounter … The last UE loss to ISU was 1-0 decision on Oct. 16, 2013 … UE is 27-28-6 all-time against fellow Indiana schools … The Aces are 1-3-0 all-time on Oct. 19, and Wednesday marks the first time the school has played on the date since a 1-0 loss to ISU in 2011.
