Aces return to action at Valpo

11/29/2016 5:17:00 PM

VALPARAISO, Ind. – After putting together 20-point comebacks in each of the previous two contests, the University of Evansville women's basketball team will be hoping to put together a complete performance as they continue the current three-game road swing at Valparaiso on Wednesday evening.

The Purple Aces (0-5) have shown a lot of character in each of the past two contests, beginning earlier this month against Southeast Missouri, a performance that saw the team wipe out a 23-point deficit to take a late lead only to fall on a pair of last-minute free throws. This past weekend, UE fell behind by a similar total to Northwestern, which was coming off a win over 16th-ranked Florida two days prior, pulling within four at one point before running out of steam in the second half.

While UE has been competitive at times this season without getting the result, Valpo (3-2) enters on the heels of a dramatic victory against Liberty as an Amber Lindfors layup at the buzzer propelled the Crusaders to a 70-68 victory. It was the second buzzer-beater this season for VU, which also earned 102-47 victory over IU Kokomo on Nov. 21.

If the Aces are to get back on track, Sara Dickey is likely to play a big role in the proceedings. Dickey, a senior out of Montezuma, Ind., is coming off one of her better performances of the season after hitting five three-pointers and finishing with 19 points against Northwestern. The outing moved her to the top of UE's all-time list for points and makes from distance.

However, the story this season has often centered on the scoring of the rest of the squad as well, with Camary Williams, who was just two steals shy of a triple-double against SEMO, leading the way. Newcomers Brooke Dossett and Macie Lively have also scored at times this season for UE, and senior forward Sasha Robinson is averaging 8.6 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Tipoff from the Athletics-Recreation Center is set for 7 p.m.

NOTES: UE is 6-5 all-time against Valparaiso … Wednesday marks the first meeting between the two teams since a Briyana Blair buzzer-beater in 2010 gave the Aces a 69-67 win at Roberts Stadium … Wednesday will also mark UE's first game at Valpo since a 74-64 loss to the Crusaders in 1997 … UE's series with VU dates back to 1981 … UE is 2-3 all-time in games played in Valparaiso.
