IOWA CITY, IOWA – The women's swimming and diving squad kicked off the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Championship this evening with a pair of relays.
"I am very pleased with how we performed tonight," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "The girls came out excited and focused. They were loose and having fun. I am excited to see what will happen tomorrow."
Senior Michaela Kent, freshmen Alaina Sylvester and Emma Hennessy, and junior Danielle Freeman kicked off the weekend with the 200 Medley Relay. They clocked in a 1:43.87, good for fourth place.
The 800 Freestyle Relay was next for the Aces. Sophomore Madi Jones, junior Jessi Hildebrand, freshman Kristy Kupfer, and sophomore Kristen Myers earned a sixth-place finish with a final time of 7:37.13.
The Aces currently sit in fourth place with 56 points, ahead of Little Rock with 54, Illinois State with 30, and Indiana State with 28.
The Aces return tomorrow, with the preliminary round beginning at 11 a.m. CST and finals beginning at 6 p.m. CST.
