UE, in partnership with the Evansville Regional Sports Commission, will serve as the host for the nine-team Valley Championships on the women's side Wednesday through Saturday. Following Wednesday night's 6 p.m. relays final session and exhibition diving event, the MVC Swimming & Diving Championships will feature preliminary round swims beginning at 10:30 a.m. each day, diving competitions mid-day on both Thursday and Friday, and then finals sessions for the top 24 finishers beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Single-session and all-session passes are currently available on-line at GoPurpleAces.com/Tickets.
A young, but talented UE squad will serve as the host school for the event this year. Over half of the 2024 UE roster will be competing in its first collegiate conference championship this week. One person who has experience in the Valley Championships, though, is senior diver Madison Rollett (Evansville, Ind./Reitz), who should contend for a top spot in the league this week. Rollett earned honorable mention all-MVC honors in 2022, and she has posted one of the league's top scoring marks this year on the one-meter board, having posted an NCAA Zone Qualifying score of 279.90 last month. Rollett and junior Sveva Brugnoli (Rome, Italy) provide the experience for UE this year, as Brugnoli earned honorable mention all-MVC honors in 2022 as well.
The MVC Championships will feature over 200 student-athletes from nine schools who compete as part of the Valley in women's swimming: Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, Little Rock, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, UIC, UNI and Valparaiso. Indiana State edged defending MVC champion Missouri State as the pre-championship favorite in a vote of the league's head coaches.
