MOLINE, Ill. — With a day remaining before the start of Hoops in the Heartland, University of Evansville women's basketball players Sara Dickey and Camary Williams were presented with All-Missouri Valley Conference honors.
"I'm happy that both Sara and Camary were recognized as two of the best players in the league," UE head coach Matt Ruffing said. "Both players have had very good senior campaigns, and they've played a big role in our turnaround this season."
Dickey, who rejoins the all-conference first team after earning an honorable mention a year ago, finished fifth in the league in scoring with a 14.8 points-per-game clip. The senior out of Montezuma, Ind., has hit her stride over the final games of the season, picking up her first two conference player of the week awards over the last three weeks.
Dickey is the first UE player to claim three all-conference first team awards in school history, and she's also the first to earn a league honor in all four years of her collegiate career.
"This is just another great accomplishment for Sara," Ruffing said of UE's all-time leading scorer. "She's shown a remarkable level of consistency from year-to-year."
Meanwhile, Camary Williams earned an honorable mention in addition to a spot on the league's all-defensive team. The senior out of Ft. Myers, Fla., was sixth in the league in scoring (14.8) and third in rebounding (7.9). She also finished second nationally in steals at just under four per contest.
"Camary is a big part of what we do on the defensive side of the ball," Ruffing said. "In my opinion, she's the best defender in the league. No one impacts the game the way she does on that end of the floor."
Dickey and Williams both took home MVC Scholar-Athlete honors earlier this week.
UE will begin play at the MVC tournament on Friday with a showdown against Missouri State. Tipoff is slated for 8:30 p.m.
