Women's basketball set for road weekend at Bradley, Illinois State

2/15/2018 4:15:00 PM

2EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Evansville women's basketball team heads north to Illinois to face Bradley in Peoria, Ill. on Friday night at 7 p.m. before taking on Illinois State in Normal, Ill. at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

The Aces return to action after hosting Drake and UNI inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse last weekend. Evansville opened with a 101-50 loss to Drake on Friday before falling to UNI, 85-60, on Sunday. Against Drake, a short-handed Aces squad faced the top team in Missouri Valley Conference Standings as the Bulldogs shot 69.1% from the floor to 33.9% for Evansville in UE's home loss. Battling UNI on Sunday, Evansville kept pace with the Panthers throughout the first quarter as the two sides headed to the second period with UNI holding just a three-point advantage. The Aces continued to keep pace with UNI in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but the Panthers used an 18-0 run over the final 3:45 to grab a 50-30 lead at the break in route to UNI's win.

Graduate guard Hannah Noe has provided a spark for the Aces this season and earned a spot in Evansville's record book last weekend. With her two three-pointers on Friday night against Drake, Noe became just the second Purple Ace to hit 56 or more threes in a single season since the 2007-08 campaign. The last Evansville player to do so was Sara Dickey who knocked-down 56 or more in each of her four seasons with the Aces. Noe added another three-pointer on Sunday against Drake giving her 57 on the season, the ninth-best single-season mark in Purple Aces' history.

This season, Evansville has shown a propensity for converting its opportunities at the free throw line. With just six games left in the regular season, Evansville continues to lead the nation in free throw shooting percentage making 83.2% of its attempts from the line. If the season ended today, the Aces would tie the NCAA Division One record for free throw shooting percentage set by Idaho State in 2008.

The Aces (3-20, 0-12 MVC) open their two-game road swing on Friday night in Peoria, Illinois against Bradley. Friday's matchup marks the 50th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Braves holding a 29-20 lead in the all-time series. The last time the Aces and Braves met, Bradley grabbed a 117-59 win over Evansville on January 21, 2018 in Evansville. Bradley heads into Friday's contest with an 11-13 overall record and a 5-8 mark in MVC play and is coming off a pair of losses on the road to Missouri State, 74-54, and SIU, 62-53.

Evansville wraps-up the weekend with a trip to Normal, Ill. to face Illinois State on Sunday afternoon. The Aces and Redbirds are meeting for the 51st time with Illinois State owning a 31-19 advantage in the all-time series. Evansville and ISU last met on January 19, 2018 inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse where the Redbirds earned a 67-43 win. Illinois State enters the weekend with an 11-13 overall mark and a 5-8 tally in conference play. The Redbirds are fresh off a weekend split on the road where ISU opened with a 39-36 win at SIU before falling to Missouri State, 75-58.
