EVANSVILLE, Ind. - In its final regular season weekend, the University of Evansville women's basketball team travels to take on Missouri State at 7 p.m. on Thursday night before facing Southern Illinois at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Evansville takes to the road following a pair of losses at home this past weekend. The Aces opened last weekend with a 60-47 loss to Loyola in which Evansville kept pace with the Ramblers most of the way, but could not push themselves over the top in UE's 13-point loss to Loyola. In the weekend opener, junior guard Kerri Gasper continued her stellar second half of the season with a 23-point performance, the second-highest scoring outing of her career. On Sunday, Evansville and Valpo got their offensive rhythm going early on as both sides combined to score 37 points in the opening quarter. The offenses sputtered in the second period as the Aces outscored the Crusaders 7-6 in the quarter with Valpo taking a 29-21 lead to the break. In the third quarter, the Crusaders grabbed momentum with a 27-9 advantage in the period as Valpo went on to earn the 67-54 win.

If the season ended today, junior guard Kerri Gasper would top the MVC in free-throw shooting percentage and sit fourth in MVC history in single-season free throw shooting percentage, hitting 91.8% this season. Gasper would be the third Purple Ace inside the top five, joining Mallory Ladd (94.9%), who sits second, and Samantha Heck (91.3%), who is currently fourth, both of whom set their marks during the 2012-13 season.
Along with Gasper's pursuit to enter the MVC record book, sophomore center Kaylan Coffman has compiled 42 blocks in her second season with the Purple Aces, putting the Templeton, Ind. native in the program record book. Coffman's 42 blocks place her in a tie for eighth in single-season blocks at UE while making her the first Aces to record 40 or more blocks since Shannon Novosel tallied 51 blocks in 2008-09.Â
The Aces will look to end the regular season on the right foot when they face Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. The weekend opener marks the 53rd time Evansville and the Bears have done battle with Missouri State owning a 39-13 advantage in the series and a 22-2 mark in games played in Springfield. The Bears enter the weekend with a 17-10 overall record and a 13-3 mark in MVC play and have already wrapped-up the No. 2 seed in next weekend's MVC Tournament.
