Spring schedule set for women's soccer

2/8/2018 3:28:00 PM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team and head coach Krista McKendree announced the team's spring schedule on Thursday, featuring five dates including a pair of matches at home.

"The spring is always a good time to get some different looks and try different things position and formation wise," said Aces head coach Krista McKendree.  "It's also a time where we can see where there are holes and who is showing the capabilities of filling those holes"

Following the 2017 season, McKendree returns a squad that loses just two seniors in forward Nicki Baham and midfielder JBess Ruby. Three Purple Aces were recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference following the conclusion of the regular season as junior forward Montana Portenier was named second team all-MVC and a pair of Aces were named to the MVC all-freshman team after impressive campaigns in 2017.

The Purple Aces open their spring season on February 25 when Evansville travels to participate in Illinois' 7-on-7 tournament.

Evansville returns to competition at Arad McCutchan Stadium for the first time since October on March 25 at 1 p.m. when the Aces host Eastern Illinois.

On March 29, the Aces make a trip north to face Purdue in West Lafayette at 6 p.m. before continuing the Big Ten road trip with a matchup at Indiana at 8 p.m. on April 6.

Evansville's spring schedule concludes on April 12 with a showdown with crosstown foe Southern Indiana traveling to McCutchan Stadium for a 7:15 p.m. contest.

"It's good to end the year playing USI. I have a lot of respect for Eric (Schoenstein) and what he's doing across town," said McKendree. "Hopefully it allows the community to come out and support both programs."
