Teppen in England

University of Evansville men’s soccer player Eric Teppen had a historic career with the Aces totaling a program record 302 saves. Nowadays, the UE senior is studying abroad at Harlaxton in Great Britain as part of Evansville’s number 1 study abroad program (BestCollegeReviews.org).

April 29: Teppen’s final exploring trip featured a visit to Italy:

“Studying abroad at Harlaxton has been a blast. I am very thankful for having the opportunity to go. It was a great semester to be able to travel the world. My last stop is Italy with the school trip. We have already traveled to Venice and seen the amazing architecture of the Romans and now we are just ending up our stay in Florence. Our last stop is the beautiful city of Rome. It has been a very tiring and long semester but has been completely worth it. It will be sad when it's over but I have been able to create many memories that I will be able to share for a lifetime.”

April 14: Teppen's most recent exploring featured some European football:

"I went to the Nottingham Forest vs Wolverhampton Wanderers match last weekend. It was a really good experience and brought back lots of memories from playing at UE. Wolverhampton won the match and beat Nottingham 2-1. It was a close game and the competition was fierce because both teams are fighting for the top 4 spots in the championship. The fans were really into the game and were cheering the entire time. It was a really good experience and I wish I could have made it to more games this semester."

“For the last two weekends I have visited Krakow and Warsaw, Poland. There were great place to visit and had a lot of history. I got to visit Auschwitz which was very saddening but very interesting to learn how the camp operated. Poland had a lot of history to it and it was very cool to see both the Old parts of town in Warsaw and Krakow. I got to try Poland's national dish of Pierogis. Pierogis are essentially dumplings that can have anything in them. I tried some Pierogi's with mushrooms in them and I tried some with apples, cinnamon, and raisins. Overall, Poland was a great country to visit and I really learned a lot of their history.”

February 19: Teppen arrived at Harlaxton last month and his most recent exploring took him to some iconic places:
"Athens has been by far the coolest place that I have traveled to so far. The weather was amazing and the food was even better. I tried a very popular dish in Greece which was squid and it was actually very good. Athens had some really cool historical places to visit like the Acropolis, Parthenon, Ancient Temple of Zeus, Panathenaic Stadium and the Ancient Agora."

Even in England, Teppen has a similar snowy landscape to us back home:
"Harlaxton is a very cool place to live, but when it snows it is an even more beautiful place. Harlaxton sticks out of the snow and I can't imagine a more beautiful sight to see."

January 30: Teppen made it to Harlaxton and here are some of his first thoughts on this once-in-a-lifetime journey:

“The reason I chose to go to Harlaxton was because I wanted to take a great opportunity that I had to be able to see the world before I started working. How many opportunities do people get to study abroad and have 3 day weekends for the whole semester? Being at Harlaxton has been a great experience so far and I am looking forward to being able to travel to several other countries and experience their way of life. I think that Harlaxton is a great opportunity that UE offers and students need to experience it once in their lifetime. Harlaxton being the number 1 study abroad program in the nation only strengthens my reason that everyone needs to experience it. Employers like seeing students who have international experience and this will help more students obtain a job after graduation.”

Teppen also had a unique moment last week when he came across the 9 ¾ platform from the Harry Potter series:

“I am somewhat of a Harry Potter fan. I was close to the platform so I decided I had to get a picture with it. Being able to travel around Europe for a semester is going to give me great opportunities to make memories that will last a lifetime.”
