Beeler Family Athletics Academic Center

Since opening in 2008, the Beeler Family Athletics Academic Center has given student-athletes a 24-hour place on campus to study and work; today it has taken a major step forward in giving new opportunities to Purple Aces student-athletes.  Thanks to the generosity of Brent and Cindi Beeler, the facility has undergone a renovation that has seen the addition of several new areas and features that will enhance the experience of its users.

The expansion, which was recently completed, saw the room expanded to include the former location of the women’s basketball office.  One room contains a whiteboard along with a large table and chairs that is utilized as a group study room while another has furniture in it that provides a laid back and relaxing environment for study.  Another room has raised tables that contain separated work areas with new computers.

In 2008, the Beelers made the initial gift that made the study center a reality as student-athletes have full access to the room at any time and have several workstations available for their use.

Academic productivity within the University of Evansville Athletics Department is at an all-time high as the school posted back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award championships.

Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction is offered for several of our traditionally challenging courses. Supplemental Instruction, or SI, is peer facilitated study sessions led by students who have taken the course before and have done exceptionally well. SI creates a collaborative learning environment where students can compare notes, hold discussions and predict test questions. Because student-athletes occasionally miss class due to competition-related travel, they are encouraged to attend the SI sessions. Student-athletes also have access to individual tutors as well. The Department of Athletics partners with the Center for Academic Advisement to provide group and individual tutoring to all UE students at no cost.

The Writing Center
The Writing Center is an invaluable resource to all UE students. Many elements of the University of Evansville core curriculum are writing intensive. Writing Center consultants are available to help students with every step of the writing process from brainstorming to proofreading. The Writing Center mission is to help students to become more comfortable with writing and to be better, more confident writers.

Information about Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions and tutors is available in the Beeler Family Athletics Academic Center and is distributed via the student-athlete list serve.
