Great 24 Hours For UE Pro Products Jamey Carroll, David Weir

10/2/2007 9:05:30 PM

Monday was quite a night for one professional athlete from the University of Evansville, and Tuesday was special for a second former UE standout.

First, Colorado Rockies third baseman Jamey Carroll ended Monday night's 13-inning wild card tiebreaker by hitting the sacrifice fly that drove in Matt Holliday with the winning run to beat San Diego 9-8.

Carroll was an all-Missouri Valley Conference infielder for the Aces in the mid-90s and went on to play for the Montreal Expos and Washington Nationals before joining the Rockies.  He'll be playing in his first Major League division series Wednesday when Colorado takes on East Division champion Philadelphia.

Less than 24 hours after Carroll sent the Rockies into post-season play, former Aces' soccer standout David Weir helped lead his Glasgow Rangers to their second straight European Champions League victory in front of more than 38,000 fans in Lyon, France.  The Rangers beat host Lyon 3-0.

Weir led the University of Evansville to the 1990 NCAA Final Four.  The first American collegiate player to compete for a European team (Scotland) in the World Cup, Weir started Tuesday as a defender for the Glasgow Rangers in what Reuters described today as "the best European result in their history."

Here's more on each of the 'Famous Aces.'
