The University of Evansville softball team has been recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for its academic achievements based on submitted grade point averages for the 2006-07 school year. The NFCA recently ranked the top academic teams in the country according to GPA. The Aces were ranked 27th among NCAA Division I softball programs.
UE as a team finished the 2006-07 academic year with an outstanding 3.320 GPA. The number 27 ranking is a great accomplishment nationally with 272 Division I softball programs eligible for such recognition. Head Coach Gwen Lewis is very proud of her team and the much deserved national attention.
“We take great pride in the fact that we are once again in the top 30 schools in the nation for academics,” Lewis said. “Our athletic department at the University takes the role of the student-athlete very seriously. We are first and foremost students and then athletes. We are proud that our girls are getting it done both in the classroom and on the field. They are truly exceptional young ladies that have learned to manage their time very wisely.”
The Aces recently wrapped up their fall season going 10-1 in the process. The 2008 campaign will kick off on February 9 when UE travels to New Mexico.
