EVANSVILLE, Ind.--The University of Evansville baseball team continued its strong fall season on Saturday, as the Purple Aces knocked off the visiting Ontario Blue Jays in an exhibition game at UE’s Charles H. Braun Stadium.

After two weeks on the practice diamond, the new-look Purple Aces were able to pick up a 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays on Saturday.  Evansville struck first for a run in the second inning on a two-out infield single by sophomore Jared Baehl and back-to-back two-out hits by true freshman T.J. Dailey and redshirt freshman Shawn Kuester.

The Blue Jays were able to respond with two runs each in the third and fourth innings to take a 4-1 lead, before the Purple Aces would score five runs in the middle three innings to take the lead for good.  Baehl began UE’s middle-inning uprising in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI triple to the wall in left-center field to score fellow sophomore Andy Pascoe and trim Ontario’s lead to 4-2.  Baehl would eventually score on a passed ball later in the inning to get UE back within one run at 4-3.

Evansville would take the lead for good in the fifth inning with a pair of runs on an RBI single by Dailey and a bases-loaded walk by Kuester.  UE would tack on a sixth run in the sixth inning thanks to a one-out triple by freshman outfielder Nate Smith and an Ontario error.

Sophomore reliever Corey Davisson and rookie right-handers Matthew Page and Zach Taylor would make the 6-4 lead stand up, as the trio would combine to give up just four base hits while striking out eight over the game’s final 5.2 innings.

Offensively, Dailey led the Evansville charge by going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Baehl had two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.  Kuester also drove in a pair of runs for UE.

Evansville will continue its fall practice season for the next three weeks.  The fall season will conclude with the annual Fall World Series and Alumni Weekend on October 5-7 at Braun Stadium.
