University of Evansville women's soccer head coach Chris Pfau has been hired as head women's soccer coach at the University of Akron, and UE Director of Athletics John Stanley is beginning an important search for the new head coach.
Pfau was head coach at Evansville the past three years, leading the Purple Aces to records of 10-8-1 in 2005, 10-9-0 in 2006, and 10-5-3 in 2007. In 2006, Pfau and assistant coaches Krista McKendree and Alison Weimer were selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year. Evansville climbed to second in the Missouri Valley Conference regular season standings in 2007.
"We really appreciate Chris's effort, and we're on a good track for success in upcoming years," said Stanley. "The women's soccer program has had great success here over the years, and it's important that our strong and growing program keeps moving in that direction. I know our program is very attractive to a lot of fine coaches."
Pfau began his coaching career while playing, serving as head coach of the Cincinnati United Soccer Club from 1995-99 and as assistant coach of the Cincinnati Riverhawks of the A-League from 1997-99. He was head men's soccer coach at Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D. from 1999-2002, and in 2002 was head women's soccer coach at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind. Pfau went on to Princeton University as an assistant coach in women's soccer in 2003 before coming to Evansville in 2005.
