Aces Scare Away Bradley

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville volleyball team picked up their second win over Bradley this season with a 3-0 sweep of the Braves at Carson Center for Halloween. With the win, the Aces improved to 6-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference and 12-12 overall. Bradley fell to 1-11 in MVC play with a record of 5-20 overall.
 
“We had a great team effort tonight,” said head coach Mike Swan. “For us to hit over .300 is a great statement to our passing an offense tonight. Julie Sylvester was big for us tonight with 23 digs and our blocking came together in the game. Hopefully, we can build on this for UNI tomorrow night.”
 
The Aces dominated the Braves in the opening set cruising to a 25-13 victory. The Aces hit .436 with 17 kills. Emily Wandersee hit .500 with six kills and two block assists to lead the team. Sally Kulupka hit .800 with four kills, and Ellen Sawin had 16 assists to lead the team.
 
The Aces defeated the Braves 25-23 in the second set with Gabruseva leading the Aces with six kills while Kulupka had five. Ellen Sawin collected 15 assists and Wandersee brought her total to four block assists with two in the second set.
 
The Aces shut the door with a 25-22 victory in the third set while hitting .317. Brooke Maher led the Aces with six kills while Sawin had 13 assists.
 
For the game, the Aces hit .314 with 52 kills in the game. Gabruseva paced the Aces with 12 kills while hitting .417 in the game. Maher had 12 kills, Kulupka had 11 and Wandersee had nine for the Aces’ team. Defensively, Julie Sylvester had 23 digs and Ellen Sawin had 44 assists.
 
The Aces will return to action tomorrow night when they host Northern Iowa at Carson Center at 5 p.m.
