PEORIA, Ill.—The University of Evansville volleyball team picked up its first road victory in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Bradley at Lorene Ramsey Gym on Saturday evening.
"We really need to rebound tonight from last night's loss," said head coach Mike Swan. "We were aggressive at the net, and our offense was spread out. We got a lot stronger as the match went on and played almost error free in the fourth set."
Bradley took the first set win, 25-23, but Evansville rebounded and took the last three sets, 25-22, 25-22, and 25-15. The Aces outhit the Braves .248 to .167 and threw down 56 kills in the win. The Aces were in double digits in kills for all four sets and hit their best in the fourth set with a .433 attack percentage and only committed two errors while never trailing in the set.
The Aces had four players in double-digit kills in the game. Brooke Maher led the way with 15 kills while hitting a stellar .324. Emily Wandersee hit .370 with 12 kills while Sally Kulupka and Ginta Gabruseva had ten kills each. Defensively, Julie Sylvester had 14 digs, and freshman Ellen Sawin had a big night with 42 assists.
The Aces (9-9, 3-2) will return to action with two MVC matches against Wichita State and Missouri State on Friday and Saturday at Carson Center. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
