University of Evansville senior
Kayla Lambert earned many honors during her outstanding career, but today she added one that no other UE women's soccer player had ever received. Lambert was chosen for the Academic All-America Team, becoming the 39th University of Evansville student-athlete to earn the official Academic All-America title.
She was a third team selection on what is officially known as the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Soccer Team (University Division), as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The forward from Las Vegas, Nevada was the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, State Farm MVC Tournament MVP, and set the all-time Missouri Valley Conference scoring record with 132 points by scoring 51 goals and making 30 assists. She has been a three-time all-region selection, and is a contender for the 2008 NSCAA All-America Team. Academically, Lambert has a 3.56 grade point average while majoring in marketing.
"Kayla reflects the type of student-athlete who our university attracts," says UE head coach
Krista McKendree, herself a member of the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team in 2000 and 2001. "This is an honor that few players receive, and Kayla is very deserving when you look at the soccer career she had combined with a very high grade point average."
Lambert also led the 13-5-2 Aces to their first MVC regular season championship since 2000, and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2001.
