Evansville has dropped its first eight contests of 2008, including three losses against nationally-ranked competition. The Purple Aces are hoping to rebound from Wednesday night’s 15-1 loss at ninth-ranked Kentucky.
The Citadel will bring a 6-3 overall record into Friday’s game after sweeping a doubleheader from USC-Upstate on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have hit just .260 so far this year, but are anchored by a defense which has committed just eight errors in nine games and a pitching staff which has posted a 2.20 team ERA. Freshman Asher Wojciechowski leads The Citadel pitching staff with a 1-0 record and 0.64 ERA.
Evansville will turn to freshman RHP Matthew Page (0-2, 7.36 ERA) to try and pick up UE’s first win of the year. Friday’s game will be the first of three games on the weekend for UE, as the Purple Aces will also battle UNC-Asheville (4-6) on Saturday and Wright State (0-6) on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. each day.
