EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Friday night’s Missouri Valley Conference series opener between Evansville and Indiana State was halted due to rain after three innings of play. The game will continue Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. with the Purple Aces leading 2-0 going to the top of the fourth inning.
Evansville grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a two-run, two-out single by freshman designated hitter Brian Robinson. Sophomore starter Wade Kapteyn, on a scheduled short start, tossed three scoreless innings of two-hit baseball while striking out four.
Saturday’s start time was pushed back to 3:00 p.m. due to expected rain in the Evansville area on Saturday morning. Saturday’s regularly scheduled game between UE and Indiana State will follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
