The University of Evansville women’s tennis team has gone “down under” to find its newest squad member, as the Purple Aces have signed Australian junior tennis standout Theadora Kotsiou to a National Letter of Intent. Kotsiou will join the UE squad this fall.
Kotsiou, a native of Adelaide, Australia, has ranked in the Top 10 in the state of South Australia during her junior tennis career, while also ranking as high as 80th in the open rankings of Australia. She was named the Tennis South Australia Women’s Premier League Player of the Year runner-up in 2005-06, and has advanced to the semifinals and finals of various singles and doubles championships during her junior tennis career. Kotsiou won the Geelong Junior Grasscourt 18 & Under singles championship, and finished second in the 2006 Hellenic Tennis Junior Championships.
Kotsiou also helped the Marryatville High School tennis program earn runner-up status at the 2006 Australian National Schools Challenge, while being part of a Marryatville squad which earned “Team of the Year” honors from the Messenger Youth Sports Awards in both 2004 and 2005.
Kotsiou plans on majoring in sports management at UE. She chose Evansville for the opportunity to broaden her academic and athletic horizons. Kotsiou will join a UE women’s tennis team that will return six members of this year’s 12-12 squad next season, including 2008 Missouri Valley Conference All-Select Team member Kate Chybowski and MVC Scholar-Athlete team selection Stephanie Millis.
