The University of Evansville baseball team will try to build off of the momentum from its best week of the season to date on Wednesday, as the Purple Aces will travel south to Clarksville, Tennessee to take on long-time rival Austin Peay in a non-conference contest.  First-pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday’s game can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.

Evansville is coming off of a week in which the Purple Aces won four out of five games, including taking the final three games of a non-conference series with Chicago State at Braun Stadium.  UE (13-35 overall) will now look to extend its winning streak to four games on Wednesday night against an Austin Peay squad which has alternated wins and losses over the last six games.

UE freshman outfielder Greg Wallace paced the Purple Aces’ attack over the weekend, going 9-for-15 (.600) with three doubles and eight RBI in the four-game series against Chicago State.  Wallace went 7-for-9 in UE’s doubleheader sweep on Sunday to raise his batting average to a team-best .322.  Wallace has put himself into consideration for the Missouri Valley Conference’s Freshman of the Year Award by ranking second among MVC freshmen in hitting at .322, while ranking third overall in the league with 16 doubles.  Wallace is trying to become the first freshman to lead UE in hitting since former Purple Ace Ryan Brownlee did so in 1994.

Austin Peay will bring a 23-24 overall record into Wednesday’s game after dropping an 18-10 decision to Middle Tennessee State on Monday evening.  The Governors are led by senior speedster Rafael Hill, who currently ranks fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in hitting with a .400 batting average.  Hill went 4-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases in Monday’s game against Middle Tennessee, while also going 2-for-5 in Austin Peay’s 5-2 victory over UE on April 23 at Braun Stadium.

Austin Peay will be in search of its second-straight season series sweep of Evansville on Wednesday night after posting the 5-2 victory over UE on April 23.  Overall, Evansville leads the all-time series, 30-18-2, over the Governors.
