Former University of Evansville baseball standout and current Cleveland Indians catcher Sal Fasano is the feature of an article in the current issue of Reader’s Digest entitled “A Baseball Career Without Steroids.” The article chronicles Fasano’s career journey and talks about his decision to not use performance enhancing drugs and play the game the right way.
Fasano, 36, was a 37th round selection as a catcher out of UE in 1993 by the Kansas City Royals. He has gone on to play in parts of 11 seasons in the Major Leagues, totaling 1,085 at-bats in 419 career games. Fasano is currently a member of the Cleveland Indians along with 1996 UE alum Jamey Carroll, and is hitting .273 with a double and two RBI in seven games behind home plate.
