Mia Tofano's early goal for the University of Evansville and Megan Meinke's late goal for Western Kentucky provided the only scoring Saturday night in the Aces' 1-1 women's soccer overtime draw against the Lady Toppers. It was the final exhibition match for both teams. Evansville's regular season opener is Friday at home against Wright State.
Tofano, a senior forward, opened the scoring at 16:17, taking a pass from Kasey Kutzler and scoring past the outstretched arms of WKU goalkeeper Libby Stout from eight yards away. Western Kentucky tied the match just 4:47 before the end of regulation, as Amanda Buechel and Kellie Walker strung together passes to find Meinke open at the far post.
Western outshot the Aces 17-7. Theresa Bagby played all 110 minutes in goal for UE and saved seven shots. Stout also played the full 110 for the Lady Toppers and made two saves.
"The main thing is, we played quicker today," said UE coach Krista McKendree. "We're going to have a lot more success when we play quickly. We still have some defensive things to organize and work out, but all in all, I've seen a lot of positive things during the pre-season."
