Injured University of Evansville baseball player Derek Melton (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) has been successful transferred to the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, after spending the last three weeks rehabilitating at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin following surgery on August 5.
Melton injured his neck in a swimming accident at La Crosse’s Pettibone Beach on August 3, while playing for the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. After undergoing surgery on August 5 to help repair the injuries suffered, Melton has been working through rehabilition, as he begins the recovery process.
Melton will now continue his rehabilitation work at the Ohio State University Medical Center’s rehabilition program at Dodd Hall, which is ranked among the nation’s top 10 rehabilition programs by U.S. News and World Report. Melton earned honorable mention all-MVC honors at UE last spring, after hitting .287 with a team-high five home runs and 25 RBI. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the La Crosse Loggers this summer, after hitting .314 with eight home runs and 45 RBI for the team, while earning Northwoods League All-Star status.
