• Live Coverage Of The UE-UK Match On AcesTV
The 4-1-1 University of Evansville women's soccer team closes out a four-match homestand Tuesday against a 1-4-0 University of Kentucky team that may be much better than its record. The Wildcats have already played four teams ranked in the top 14 nationally, and three of those matches took place away from home. UK’s losses have been to #8 Texas 3-1, #9 Duke 3-1, #3 North Carolina 4-0, and #14 West Virginia 1-0. The lone win came against the only unranked team, Cincinnati, 1-0. Last September, Kentucky beat Evansville 4-1 in Lexington.
Evansville is ranked #49 in the country and number one among Missouri Valley Conference teams this week by Top Drawer Soccer. UE's current three-match winning streak equals its best since the 2005 squad won four in a row. The Aces have won their last five regular season home matches, including four this season. They’ve outscored the competition 12-3 in the four home matches.
Seniors
Kayla Lambert and
Mia Tofano go into this week's play ranked one-two in the MVC in points per game and goals per game. Lambert has six goals and two assists for 14 points in six matches while Tofano has four goals and three assists for 11. Tofano is tied with teammates
Kara Murphy and
Nicole Moyen for the league lead in assists at 0.5 per game.
The Aces have scored at least one goal in each of their last 13 matches, dating back to last October. Sophomore
Kristin Thuve kept the streak intact last Wednesday when she rebounded Mia Tofano’s shot off the crossbar and tapped it in to give the Aces a 1-0 win over Belmont in UE's most recent outing. The shutout earned junior defender
Kasey Kutzler the Brine/MVC Defensive Player of the Week award today.
