TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State scored first and last, and held off the University of Evansville women's soccer team here Wednesday night, 2-1. The Aces are now 5-8-0 overall and 2-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. ISU is 4-8-2 and 1-2-0. Evansville had won five in a row against Indiana State.
Kaitlin Owens scored her fourth goal of the year just four minutes into the match to give the Sycamores a 1-0 lead. Evansville tied the score at 24:51 when freshman Kristen Davis found space inside the penalty area and blasted a shot off the hands of Indiana State goalkeeper Taylor Nelson and into the net. Davis leads Evansville in scoring with five goals.
The game-winner came at 50:05 when Laura Terry scored her first goal of the year, and the Sycamores' defense kept Evansville scoreless the rest of the way. Indiana State outshot UE 18-6. Nelson made three saves for ISU, and freshman Chaviel Harrison made six for the Aces.
Wednesday's match was the first of four in a row on the road for the Aces. They play Sunday at Illinois State in a match between the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference regular season co-champions.
