University of Evansville tennis players Kate Chybowski and Theadora Kotsiou will compete in singles and doubles at the 2009 Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's Ohio Valley Championships hosted by the University of Cincinnati. This four-day tournament starting Thursday will be played at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Chybowski has posted a 9-3 record at number one singles this fall, winning the Flight 1 Singles title at the Aces Fall Classic and IPFW Invitational.
"Dora and I are excited to compete in the ITA tournament," Chybowski said. "We are looking forward to having the opportunity to play the tough competition of the bigger conferences like the Big 10. It is always fun to play the bigger schools and prove that we are right there with them because, after all, it is always 0-0 when you walk out on the court." Chybowski's first match will be against Amelia Harris from the University of Louisville at 11:30 am Friday.
Kotsiou is also 9-3 this fall. She won Flight 2 Singles at the Aces Fall Classic and IPFW Invitational.
"Both Kate and I are excited to play some quality matches and we want to prove that we are able to compete at a higher level," Kotsiou said. "This weekend should be a great experience for us both and we are hoping to finish our fall season with some winning results." She will face Ismail Safiyya from the University of Cincinnati at 3:30 on Friday.
Chybowski and Kotsiou are also in the main draw for doubles after going 7-3 at the one spot this fall. They teamed up to win Flight 1 doubles at the Aces Fall Classic and the IPFW Invitational. They also finished third in the Missouri Valley Individual Championships. After receiving a bye into the second round, they will play the winner of Indiana University and University of Cincinnati on Thursday at 4:30.
Head Coach Christine Bader on her players competing in this tournament: "I am very excited for this event and proud we could get two girls into the main draw in singles and doubles. Dora and Kate are two great representatives for our tennis program and university to compete against the top players in the region."
