EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville softball team behind a dazzling pitching performance by freshman Kylie Wagner and a timely hit by sophomore Jen Stahlhut snapped a four-game losing streak to split a doubleheader with Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday at Cooper Stadium.

Game 1
Paij Lintz held the Aces to just two hits in the first game of the doubleheader as the Skyhawks went on to win 5-1.

Jen McKee got off to a tough start for the Aces giving up a leadoff walk and then a two-run home run to Tennessee-Martin’s Laura Roberts.

The Aces got on the board in the fourth inning with Kelci Alsip moving up two bases on a wild pitch and scoring on a groundout by Jen Stahlhut.

McKee settled down in the middle innings, pitching three scoreless innings before giving up a run in the fifth inning and two unearned innings in the fifth.

Alsip’s hit in the fourth was the only hit other than Jamie Lindauer’s leadoff double in the sixth inning.

McKee gave up three earned runs in the game with five walks and five strikeouts. Kara Harper took the win for the Skyhawks giving up one run on two hits with five strikeouts.

Game 2
The second game of the day was a pitcher’s duel between Wagner and Tennessee-Martin’s Paij. The two battled back and forth for five and a half scoreless innings.

Wagner retired the side in order through the first two innings before allowing her first hit of the game in the third inning. Wagner went the distance for the Aces giving up just four hits with four strikeouts.

Jen Stahlhut gave the Aces the lead and the win with a solo home run over the right field fence with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Amanda Ockomon was 2-for-3 in the game while Alsip and Amy Gaertner also had base hits for the Aces.

The Aces (5-13) will travel to Drake this weekend for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and concluding with a game on Sunday at noon.
