EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville softball team was able to provide plenty of offense as it swept the visiting Butler Bulldogs in two games at Cooper Stadium on Wednesday. Aces’ pitchers combined to allow just one run in the doubleheader.

Game 1
Freshman Kylie Wagner allowed just four hits and one run as the Aces dominated the Bulldogs in a 7-1 win in the opening game.

The Aces struck first scoring a run in the first inning. Kristen Shirk and Jen Stahlhut had consecutive singles and Wagner drew a walk to load the bases for Lissa Fehlman, who picked up an RBI with a walk.

The Aces put up one in the fourth on an RBI single by Annie Vincelett that scored Amanda Ockomon from third. Price put the Aces up 3-0 by getting a single and coming around to score on a passed ball and an error by the Bulldogs’ catcher.

Butler got their lone run in the top of the sixth with a two-out RBI single by Alex Boros.

The Aces put the game out of reach by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Fehlman led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Allison Aguilera. Vincelett drove in her second run of the game with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelci Alsip. Price capped off the game with a two-run home run, her fifth of the season.

The top three hitters in the Aces’ lineup had two hit days including Price, Shirk, and Stahlhut while Price had two RBI and Stahlhut had an RBI. Vincelett had two hits and two RBI, and Fehlman and Ockomon accounted for the rest of the Aces’ 10 hits in the game.

Game 2
Jen McKee had the outstanding pitching performance in the second game, giving up just one hit while striking out four Bulldogs’ hitters. McKee retired the first nine batters she faced and only faced 21 batters in the game as the Aces shut out the Bulldogs, 8-0, in six innings.

Fehlman drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single to drive in Stahlhut from second. The Aces struck for two runs in the fourth on back-to-back home runs by Ockomon and freshman Maggie Little to give the Aces a 3-0 lead.

The Aces had a four-run fifth inning on four hits and an error. Wagner singled, Fehlman reached on an error and Vincelett singled to load the bases. Ockomon drove in a run with a single, and Jamie Lindauer had a two-out three-run triple to put the Aces up 7-0.

Wagner reached base with a fielder’s choice that allowed Shirk to slide safely into home to end the game.

The Aces had 11 hits in the second game with Wagner, Ockomon, and Vincelett having two hits each while Shirk, Stahlhut, Fehlman, Little, and Lindauer accounted for the rest of the Aces’ offense.

The Aces (7-18) will travel to Wichita State for a weekend conference series as the team will face the Shockers in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First-pitch on both days will be at noon.
