Three Players Leave UE Basketball Program

3/27/2009 7:42:31 PM

Freshmen Kaylon Williams and Zach House, and junior Darin Granger, will leave the University of Evansville basketball program, Head Coach Marty Simmons announced today.

"Zach and Darin are transferring because both want a greater opportunity for more playing time in the future," Simmons said.  "In Kaylon's case, for personal reasons he and his family believe it's in his best interest to get closer to home (Williams is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa).  All three are good kids, and we wish them the best."

Williams has withdrawn from school.  House and Granger will complete the current semester at UE.  With the three players leaving, the University of Evansville has four open scholarships for the 2009-10 season.  The Aces are coming off a 17-14 season, a fifth place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference, and a berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament in Simmons' second year as head coach. It was their first winning season since 2000, and their first post-season appearance since 1999.

UE has seven lettermen returning next season, led by two-year starter Pieter van Tongeren, Kavon Lacey and James Haarsma.  Also back are Clint Hopf, Denver Holmes, C.J. Erickson and Trevor Gregory.  Transfer Bryan Bouchie joins the team next season along with November signees Colt Ryan and Derek Johnson.
