The University of Evansville baseball team will step outside of Missouri Valley Conference play briefly on Wednesday night, as the Purple Aces will wrap up a two-game home-and-home series with the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawks at Charles H. Braun Stadium in Evansville.  First-pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday’s game can be seen live on the internet on AcesTV.

Evansville will bring a 9-14 overall record into Wednesday’s contest.  The Purple Aces are coming off of a dramatic 12-11 come-from-behind victory over Northern Iowa on Sunday, as sophomore third baseman Cody Fick produced his second game-winning hit of the year with a two-out, two-run double to cap a three-run ninth inning rally by UE.  Fick will bring a team-best .371 batting average into Wednesday’s contest, while sophomore Shawn Kuester (.326/0/6) and junior Andy Pascoe (.306/0/4) will also bring batting averages above .300 into Wednesday’s game.

Tennessee-Martin will bring a 9-13 overall record into Wednesday’s game after dropping three games over the weekend at Southeast Missouri State.  The Skyhawks are led by the senior trio of brothers Mark and Miles Hartsfield and second baseman Scott Gladstone, who will all bring batting averages above .400 into Wednesday’s contest.  Mark Hartsfield currently paces the UTM attack with a .433 average, seven home runs, and 21 RBI, while Gladstone adds a .413 clip and an 18-game hitting streak and Miles Hartsfield brings a .407 average into Wednesday’s action.  The trio combined to go 8-for-10 with five home runs, 12 RBI, and eight runs scored in the Skyhawks’ 13-2 victory over UE on February 25.

Evansville leads the all-time series over Tennessee-Martin, 5-2, however the Skyhawks have won each of the last two series meetings.
