For the sixth consecutive year, members of the University of Evansville cross country programs will take to the track this spring, as UE head coach Don Walters announced his annual spring schedule Wednesday which includes five track meets as part of the Purple Aces' training.
UE's spring season on the track will begin on Saturday, March 21 when the Purple Aces will compete at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Track Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana. Evansville will then return to Terre Haute a week later on Saturday, March 28 to take part in the Indiana State Track Invitational.
The month of April will begin with a trip south for UE, as the Purple Aces will compete in the Austin Peay State Invitational on Saturday, April 4. A pair of Friday meets will then wrap up the spring season for Evansville, as the Purple Aces will take part in the Indiana Invitational on Friday, April 17 and the Western Kentucky Invitational on Friday, April 24.
"The spring season is a very important part of our training program here at UE," said Walters. "It allows us to work on and fine tune a lot of different things in our running, while allowing us to keep our base underneath us. The runners also really enjoy the spring season because they still get to compete in track meets on the weekends, so they are still able to compete against other schools and individuals."
While UE does not officially sponsor a track program, members of the UE cross country program are allowed to compete in up to five track meets during the spring as part of their training season, per NCAA rules.
