Cross Country Adds Three More To 2009 Roster

7/27/2009 4:28:11 PM

University of Evansville cross country coach Don Walters added three more runners to his 2009 roster on Monday, announcing the addition of Dylan Kleemann (Tell City, Ind./Tell City) to his men’s roster and #Megan O’Malley# (New Carlisle, Ind./James Whitcomb Riley) and Andrea Wolf (Greenwood, Ind./Roncalli) to his women’s roster.

“These three individuals will make our program better, both on and off of the course,” said Walters.  “All three are hard-working individuals who take great pride in what they do, not only on the course, but also off.  They all are great fits for the University of Evansville.”

Kleemann ran cross country and track at nearby Tell City High School for former UE standout Chris Hollinden.  Kleemann was a part of a Tell City program which won back-to-back Pocket Athletic Conference championships in 2006 and 2007, and he cut over two minutes off of his best 5K time during the course of his high school running career.  He plans on majoring in civil engineering at UE.

O’Malley, meanwhile, comes to UE from James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana.  She was a two-time qualifier for the Indiana semi-state meet in cross country at South Bend Riley, while earning all-city honors.  She was also a two-time indoor state qualifier in the 4x800-meter relay event in track, while earning the Sportsmanship Award for both the track and cross country squads.  O’Malley hopes to major in nursing at Evansville.

Wolf will join the UE squad this fall after earning three letters in cross country and four in track at Roncalli High School in Indianapolis.  She earned Academic All-State honors for the Rebels, while being named the team’s “Most Valuable Senior” this past fall.  Wolf also was a part of two 4x800-meter relay teams at Roncalli which broke the school record on the track as both a freshman and sophomore.  Wolf plans on majoring in exercise science at UE.

All three runners were members of the National Honor Society in high school.  They will join a UE cross country program this fall which has won 16 Academic All-America Team awards in Walters’ first nine years as head coach.

The 2009 cross country season will begin on Saturday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m. central time, as the Purple Aces will host the sixth-annual Mid-America Opener at the UE Cross Country Course, located at 20404 Barton Road in Evansville.
