A 55-minute lightning delay made for a longer night but a shorter match for the University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana women's soccer teams Tuesday night at UE's Black Beauty Field.

The Purple Aces and Screaming Eagles ended up playing 75 minutes instead of the regulation 90 following the nearly one-hour delay to begin the second half, and the final result was a scoreless tie in the final exhibition match for both squads.  UE opens regular season play Sunday evening at Southeast Missouri.

USI, coached by University of Evansville Hall of Famer Krissy Meek Engelbrecht, put a total of five shots on goal compared to four by Evansville.  It was a pair of shots not on goal that almost resulted in tallies, however.  USI's Susan Ellsperman barely missed a goal midway through the second half when her blast from the right side sailed just outside the far post.  UE freshman Kristen Davis narrowly missed her first collegiate goal in the final two minutes when her shot from 20 yards out hit squarely against the far post.

Davis took five of Evansville's total of 12 shots, while Kaitlin Oldfield and Sam Conrad had three each.  USI had 13 total shots, led by Ellsperman's four and three from Nancy Newcomer.
