Coming off its most impressive performance of the season, a 2-1 win over Drake on Sunday in the first Missouri Valley Conference match of 2009, the University of Evansville women's soccer team closes out the two-game homestand Wednesday against non-conference opponent Eastern Illinois. Kickoff is at 7:00 at Black Beauty Field.
Now 3-6-0 overall, the Aces have won two of their last three matches and have scored seven goals in their last four outings. They were limited to two goals in their first five games. Freshman Kristen Davis, the current Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, scored Evansville's first goal against Drake, and sophomore Kaitlin Oldfield scored the game-winner in the 88th minute. The win extended Evansville's win streak over MVC opponents to five, dating back to last season when Evansville finished as regular season co-champion and MVC Tournament champion.
Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Illinois is 4-3-4, and has outscored the opposition 13-11 despite being outshot 202-104. The Panthers and Aces have two common opponents. IUPUI lost to Eastern Illinois 2-0 Aug. 21, but defeated Evansville 2-0 on Sept. 4. Southeast Missouri lost to Evansville 1-0 on Aug. 23 but came back to tie Eastern Illinois last Sunday, 1-1.
