Evansville, Ind- Senior Pieter van Tongeren turned in a career-best 18-point night to lead the University of Evansville men’s basketball team to a 90-56 victory over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Saturday night at Roberts Stadium.

van Tongeren came into Saturday's game as the Missouri Valley Conference field goal percentage leader at 66 percent, and his numbers went up with 8-for-10 shooting against the Hawks.  He also had four rebounds for the 4-4 Aces.

"Piet stepped up during the last couple days in practice," said coach Marty Simmons.  "He sets the tone for us in many ways."

Junior Denver Holmes added 13 points in the win while junior Kenneth Harris totaled nine points and a team-high six rebounds.  His dunk at 15:47 in the second half gave Evansville its biggest lead of the night at 59-29.  Sophomore Colt Ryan added 12 points, Lewis Jones came off the bench to score a career-high 10, and freshman Jordan Jahr contributed nine points and six rebounds in just nine minutes of action.

"We got off to a good start, we had good intensity, and from top to bottom we got quality minutes from everybody," Simmons added. 

Junior Tyler Hines led the 2-7 Hawks with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Kevin White also recorded 11 points.

The Aces will concentrate on final exams in the coming days before returning to Roberts Stadium to host Middle Tennessee State next Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. CST.
