University of Evansville head coach of baseball Wes Carroll has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent. The class consists of three pitchers, an outfielder, and two infielders, stemming from five different states.
Kyle Freeland (Denver, Colo./Thomas Jefferson), Kameron Wright (Lockbourne, Ohio/Hamilton Township), and Parker Asmann (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) will join the Aces’ pitching staff for the 2012 season, while infielder Conor Gilligan (Loveland, Ohio/St. Xavier), outfielder Kyle Schwinghamer (Ferdinand, Ind./Forrest Park) and versatile player David Luciani (Madison, Wis./Memorial) have a chance to step in immediately with the graduation of UE’s current senior class, consisting of seven field players.
“I would like to thank my coaching staff for working very hard to put this class together,” said Coach Carroll. “Coach Wagner and Coach Reynolds do an outstanding job on the recruiting trail and I’m very pleased with our recruiting class so far.”
“We are losing some valuable players this spring, but I believe we’ve addressed some of those losses with this recruiting class,” added Carroll. “I like this group and I’m excited to get them on campus next fall.”
Below is a quick rundown of each player, with a quote from the UE coaching staff:
Parker Asmann · RHP · Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich H.S.

Led the Schaumberg Seminoles to an Illinois State Championship, throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout in the title game. Owns a .410 batting average and 61-15-10 pitching record with a 2.01 ERA in five years with the Seminoles.
“Parker will really bolster our pitching staff in 2012. He’s very competitive on the mound and throws three pitches for strikes. I look forward to seeing him compete in the MVC in an Aces uniform.
Kyle Freeland · LHP · Denver, Colo./Thomas Jefferson H.S.
“Kyle will be a great addition to our 2012 pitching staff. He has the talents to be an immediate impact with his mid 80’s fastball and a very good breaking ball. I look forward to seeing him in an Aces uniform.”
Conor Gilligan · INF · Loveland, Ohio/St. Xavier H.S.
Bats: Right Throws: Right 6’4
Named Rawlings Perfect Game Underclass All-American honorable mention as a junior.
“Conor is a great all around athlete that we are excited to have as an Ace. We lose some quality position players this year and we feel very confident in Conor’s ability to step right in and fill the void. Conor also has the ability to be a two-way player for us.”
David Luciani · INF/OF · Madison, Wis./Memorial H.S.
Bats:Left Throws: Right 6’0
Hit .356 with a .483 on-base percentage, and a .520 slugging percentage as a high school junior. Earned all-conference honors and awarded team Gold Glove award.
“David is a versatile player that fits our mold here. I love his athleticism in the batter’s box with his smooth left handed swing. I’m excited to see him compete next fall and for the next several years here.”
Kyle Schwinghamer · OF · Ferdinand, Ind./Forrest Park H.S.
Bats: Right Throws: Right 6’1
Owned a perfect stolen base percentage (14-for-14) and hit .489 with a .615 on-base percentage as a high school junior. Earned all-conference and all-state honors.
“Kyle is a very athletic outfielder with tremendous potential. We’re losing a couple of our starting outfielders this year, so getting a player like Kyle was a priority in this class. Kyle has the potential to have a great career here at Evansville.”
Kameron Wright · RHP · Lockbourne, Ohio/Hamilton Township H.S.
“We are very pleased to sign Kameron. He has tremendous upside with his 6’4 frame and loose arm. He has a chance to really help out our pitching staff in 2012.”
