CALARA, Ala. -- The University of Evansville has its first tournament medalist in women's golf in seven years. Junior Maggie Wood (Boonville, Ind. / Boonville) shot 75 today to finish with a 36-hole score of 152 at the Ann Rhoads/Birmingham Southern Shootout, played at Timberline Golf Club. She is UE's first tournament champion since Andrea Werner won the 2003 Lady Herd Classic.

Wood shared the individual title in the 35-player tournament with Jennifer Sells of Jackson State University. As a team, Evansville took 17 shots off Sunday's total to jump from fifth to third place in the final standings with a team score of 653.

"Maggie probably struck the ball as well today as she has at any time since she first came here as a freshman," said Coach Jim Hamilton. "We played much better as a team today, and hopefully that's going to give us some momentum as we get deeper into the spring season."

Also breaking 80 today for Evansville was junior Emily Johnson, whose rounds of 86 and 78 left her in 11th place at 164. Lauren Ellerman also cracked the top 20, shooting 82 today and 166 for the tournament.

The Aces play again March 15 at the Samford Intercollegiate.
