The number eight hitter helped Dallas Baptist University put up eight runs Saturday afternoon, and that was plenty as the Patriots salvaged the finale of a three-game series at Braun Stadium over the University of Evansville, 8-2. DPU is now 18-14. The Aces are 15-16 going into Tuesday's game at Murray State. They return home Wednesday to face Murray at 6:00 CDT.

Shortstop Austin Elkins doubled and scored the Patriots' first run in the fifth inning, hit a three-run homer in the sixth, and drove in two more runs with a single in the eighth to lead Dallas Baptist's 14-hit attack Saturday. The home run was Elkins' fifth of the year. Meanwhile, three DPU pitchers held the Aces to only four basehits to stop Evansville's winning streak at two.

The Aces took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Greg Wallace singled, stole second and third, and came home on Nate Smith's sacrifice fly. An error allowed the Patriots to tie the game in the fifth, and they finally touched up UE starter Jake Naumann with two basehits to start the sixth. Reliever Corey Davisson came in and got the first out, but gave up an RBI single to Travis Meiners, and then the three-run shot from Elkins that put Dallas Baptist up 5-1. Elkins' two-run single in the eighth off Zach Taylor made it a 7-1 game. Evansville's only other score came in the eighth when Cody Fick walked and eventually scored on an infield error.

Wallace, Trent Copeland, Alex Acheson and Shawn Kuester were the only Aces to muster basehits, all singles. Dallas Baptist is in its fifth year of Division I baseball, and reached the NCAA Regionals in 2008.
