5/11/2010 9:13:05 AM

University of Evansville junior baseball player Nate Smith (Brampton, Ontario/Cardinal Leger S.S.) has been named this week's Vectren Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts on the diamond this past week.

Smith helped UE to a 3-1 week on the diamond this past week by hitting an even .500 (7-for-14), with five of his seven base hits going for extra-bases, including launching a pair of home runs in UE's weekend series victory over Indiana State.  Smith began his week by hitting two doubles and a triple in UE's 10-3 victory over Oakland City on Tuesday.  He then launched home runs both Friday night and Saturday afternoon against Indiana State.

For the week, Smith went 7-for-14 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, four RBI and four runs scored in four starts in the UE outfield.  He posted a 1.214 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage for the Purple Aces, while handling all nine defensive chances in the outfield without an error.

Smith and the Purple Aces return to the diamond this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. as UE (26-21 overall) will host Austin Peay State (22-22) in a rare mid-week doubleheader.
