ST. LOUIS -- University of Evansville baseball player Alex Acheson (Champaign, Ill.) has been selected as the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The senior outfielder from Champaign, Ill. led the Purple Aces to three wins in four games last week, as UE defeated Oakland City and took two of three from MVC rival Indiana State. Acheson, who has a 3.49 cumulative grade-point average in accounting, batted .538 (7-for-13) with two doubles, three runs scored and four runs batted in. He scored the game-winning run in the 3-2 triumph over Indiana State on Saturday, and then keyed UE's 7-3 win in the series finale with a two-out, two-run double which proved to be the game-winner.
To qualify for the Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Now in its 11th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies.
