EVANSVILLE, Ind.--Due to heavy rains in the Tri-State area in the middle of the fourth inning which made the Charles H. Braun Stadium field unplayable, Thursday night's Missouri Valley Conference baseball series opener between the University of Evansville and Illinois State has been postponed. The game will resume on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. with the score tied 2-2. The two teams will then try to play the originally-scheduled Friday contest at the conclusion of game one.
Illinois State jumped to an early 2-0 lead through the first two innings thanks to an unearned run in the first inning and an RBI triple by first baseman Zach Amrein in the second. UE would answer back though after a brief rain delay in the bottom of the second inning with two runs on an RBI single by junior designated hitter Shawn Kuester and a sacrifice fly by freshman catcher John Day to tie the game at 2-2. The score would remain tied at 2-2 until the middle of the fourth inning, when rains caused the postponement of the contest.
Both games on Friday can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.
