UE's 2010 State Farm MVC Tournament Notes (PDF)

The University of Evansville baseball team will face long-time rival Southern Illinois University on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Tournament at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.  First-pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. and every game of the tournament can be heard live in Evansville on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.

Evansville earned the No. 5 seed in the MVC Tournament field with a 9-5 victory over league co-champion Illinois State on Saturday afternoon to improve to 30-25 overall and 10-11 in the MVC.  UE will enter tournament play as just one of three Valley teams with 30 or more victories though on Tuesday.

Southern Illinois will serve as the tournament No. 4 seed after dropping a 6-5 decision in 10 innings at Missouri State on Saturday.  The Salukis currently stand at 28-27 overall and 10-10 in Valley play after the loss, which snapped a five-game winning streak for SIU.  The streak actually began against Evansville last weekend, as SIU?won a pair of two-run decisions over UE after the Purple Aces posted a 14-2, run-rule victory in Carbondale in the series opener.

Evansville and Southern Illinois are grouped together in a four-team pod with top-seeded Wichita State (38-18 overall, 15-6 MVC) and eighth-seeded Missouri State (20-32, 6-15 MVC) in the new eight-team bracket.  The winners from those two match-ups will meet on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the second round of the double-elimination tournament, while the two losers will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday in an elimination game.  The team that wins the double-elimination four-team pod championship will square off with the winner of the other pod championship on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in a winner-take-all championship game which can be seen live on Fox Sports Midwest.
