The University of Evansville baseball team will try to rebound from a weekend sweep on Tuesday night, as the Purple Aces will return home to Charles H. Braun Stadium to take on nearby Division II rival Oakland City University.  First-pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. and the game can be seen live on-line on AcesTV.

Tuesday’s game is actually a make-up game for a game originally scheduled for Wednesday against Western Kentucky University, but which was canceled after the Hilltoppers had over-scheduled in 2010.  Evansville will try to use Tuesday’s game against Oakland City to bounce back from a three-game weekend series sweep at Creighton in which the Purple Aces stranded 28 men on base.

Evansville will bring a 23-20 overall record into Tuesday’s game.  Junior outfielder Greg Wallace continues to pace the UE offense this spring with a .388 average, 17 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs, and a Missouri Valley Conference-best 62 RBI.  Wallace is quickly closing in on joining UE’s elite 200-hit club in his Purple Aces’ career, as he has 192 career hits at UE.  Only 21 men have collected over 200 career hits in the history of UE baseball.

Junior infielder Cody Fick also will bring a .345 average and a league-best 13 home runs into Tuesday’s contest, while freshman shortstop Eric Stamets owns a .337 average, while leading the MVC with 35 stolen bases.  He is just one stolen base shy of tying UE’s single-season record for thefts, set by Kevin Krizan in 1991.

Oakland City, meanwhile, will bring a 17-21 overall record into Tuesday’s game after dropping an 11-5 decision to Ohio Dominican University on April 24.  Senior outfielder Harry Turney will bring a team-best .427 batting average and 20 stolen bases into Tuesday’s contest.  As a team, the Mighty Oaks bat .316 so far this year.

“Tuesday’s game is an important game for us in the aspect that we need to get back to playing good, solid Evansville baseball,” said UE head coach Wes Carroll.  “We didn’t do that this past weekend, and it cost us three losses.  We need to get back to playing Evansville baseball, because there is still a lot of baseball left to be played in the Missouri Valley Conference.”

Prior to Tuesday night’s game, the walkway surrounding the UE stadium complex will be dedicated in honor of the Kent Family.
