After a strong performance this week from University of Evansville softball player Amy Gaertner, the sophomore has earned two weekly honors, as she was named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week and UE’s Vectren Student-Athlete of the Week.
Continuing with a stellar sophomore season, Gaertner got hits when they counted for the Aces this week to help secure a series win against Drake and a trip to the State Farm MVC Tournament. After grabbing a hit and a run in game two at UT Martin on Tuesday, Gaertner came out swinging against the Bulldogs this weekend as she hit .714 in the three-game series.
On Friday, Gaertner recorded her first multi-home run game with two homers to left field in her first two at-bats and now ranks first on the team with nine this season. The Illinois native then went 2-for-2 in game two's close loss before recording a double in game three to push what would be the winning runs across home.
Gaertner now ranks first for UE with a .310 overall average and .373 in the conference and carries a four-game hit streak into this weekend’s final conference series at Creighton.
