Former University of Evansville pitcher
Corey Davisson picked up at the professional level right where he left off in college on Thursday night, as he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief work in his Minor League debut for the Yakima Bears of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
Called upon in the sixth inning with his team trailing 5-3, Davisson kept the Bears in the contest with a perfect sixth inning and a one-hit, scoreless seventh inning. Davisson struck out the first professional batter he faced, Everett’s Billy Marcoe, swinging to begin the sixth, before recording a pair of infield outs to conclude the sixth.
After Yakima was able to score a run in the seventh inning to trim the deficit to 5-4, Davisson worked a scoreless seventh inning, recording a strikeout and working around a two-out single to keep the score 5-4. Davisson was relieved in the eighth inning after tossing 2.0 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief while striking out two. Yakima would go on to lose to Everett, the short-season Class A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, by the score of 5-4 to drop to 1-6 on the season. Everett, meanwhile, remained undefeated at 7-0.
Davisson signed with the Diamondbacks on Monday after going 9-1 with a 3.95 ERA in 33 appearances for the Purple Aces this past spring.
