The University of Evansville's first goal of the season was huge.

It came from sophomore Dani Langness, and allowed the Purple Aces' women's soccer team to end a two-game losing streak as Evansville and Valparaiso University played to a 1-1 overtime draw Sunday afternoon at McCutchan Stadium.

Evansville is 0-2-1 heading into Friday's match at Western Kentucky.  Valpo is 2-0-1.

The Crusaders got on the board first when defender Janine Lytle punched in a shot during a scramble in front of the net following Amanda Ulin's corner kick in the opening 10 minutes.  But Evansville came back to knot the score at 32:27 when freshman Breanna Biene led Langness with a perfect cross
from the right corner of the penalty area.  Langness took the ball at her feet in stride and blasted it past Valparaiso goalkeeper Kristen Manski for the tying tally.

Both teams had opportunities in the ensuing 77 minutes.  Sophomore Luisa Desario finished with nine of Valpo's 19 shots, and put two on goal.  One was headed away by an Evansville defender in the first half, and UE keeper Chaviel Harrison got a hand on a long, looping shot late in overtime.  Evansville's Vanessa Legault-Cordisco and Kasey Cartwright had good looks, but Legault-Cordiso missed wide on a chance late in regulation and Cartwright had two stopped by Manski.

Valpo ended up with a 19-8 edge in shots, and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
