Aces Finish Strong In Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The University of Evansville women’s tennis team wrapped up its opening tournament of the 2010 fall season on Sunday at the Memphis Invite by winning one championship and four consolation championships.

Sophomore Carolyn Caire won the B4 singles title on Sunday with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Sarah Witkowski of host Memphis. Senior Kate Chybowski and junior Aleksandra Dzakula both won their consolation championships with wins on Sunday. Chybowski defeated Anna Winklemann of Tennesee Martin 6-1, 6-2, and Dzakula defeated Elizabeth Keevil from Libscomb 6-2, 6-2. Senior Pin Sorensen finished the tourney with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Natalia Nunez of Belmont, and senior Ashton Schwerin beat Abby Hogan of Belmont, 6-2, 6-2.

Also on Sunday, Tereza Lerova of Georgia State defeated junior Theadora Kotsiou 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Ceara Howey of Arkansas State defeated freshman Kelsey Costales 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

In doubles, both Chybowski/Kotsiou and Scherwin/Sorenson won their draw’s consolation championships.  Chybowski and Kotsiou defeated Abilene Christian University's top doubles team 8-5, and Scherwin and Sorensen won by the same score against Arkansas State.

The Aces continue their fall season as they travel to the IPFW Invitational on October 1-2.
